LOW/ MID/ HIGH-END MAKEUP OPTIONS FOR BEGINNERS!

This past week I went shopping with two girlfriends of mine. The idea was that they wanted to get a basic makeup kit so they could improve or rather actually start wearing it hahaha. So then I thought, maybe there are more people out there, who have no idea about makeup or what to get so that's where I got the idea for this post! Here I'll be posting the makeup you need as a beginner and a variety of options. Where the options may vary in price range, all the recommendations are seen as good quality and good functioning makeup! So, let's get started!

1. MOISTURIZER
You can buy the most expensive makeup in the world but it wouldn't matter unless you have a good base. Having a good moisturizer sets the tone for the rest of the products. Choosing a good moisturizer however is tricky, you need to first figure out your skin type (dry, oily, combination, acne prone) and then find a moisturizer to suit your skins need.

2. PRIMER
So primer is basically there to create a layer between your skin and the makeup. A good primer also helps diminish the look of pores, evens your skin's texture and helps your makeup look better and last longer.

3. FOUNDATION
A good foundation can make or break your makeup look. Choose one that's too dark and people will call you out in a heartbeat, choose one that's too light and people will compare you to a ghost. Foundations can be liquid, solid, cream and it's up to you to choose the one that works best for your skin. If it's your first time, don't hesitate to ask the shop assistant for help, if you describe your skin type, they will help you find the perfect shade and match for you.

4.CONCEALER
So concealer's purpose is in the name, it's there to conceal. Usually we use it to hide our dark circles, age spots, discoloration, blemishes and sometimes people even use it to give a brightening effect.

6. EYEBROWS
They say that eyebrows are the frame of the face. There are even people who say that if they could only do one part of their face they will only do their eyebrows. A well shaped and filled in eyebrow can make a world of a difference. You can use a pencil, a powder, a pomade, it really depends on you and remember, eyebrows are sisters not twins.

7. BRONZER-CONTOUR/BLUSH/HIGHLIGHTER TRIO
So this maybe a personal choice but I think if you're a beginner when it comes to makeup, in order to not overwhelm yourself, these face palettes come in handy. There is a contour or bronzer which is used to define or add depth to the face, blush which is used to add colour to the cheeks and a highlighter which adds some luminosity and brightness. Instead of buying separate ones it may be a good idea to play around with these trios.

8. EYESHADOW PALETTES

9. EYELINER
So eyeliner is really one of the trickiest things to master...I mean who the hell thought that drawing a black line around our eyes would be considered part of makeup??? Eyeliner can take you from Chloe to Chloeopatra, from regular eyes to sultry cat eyes, from 25 year old girl to potential raccoon...well the raccoon look is if you mess it up. The important thing to remember is that practice makes perfect annnnddd.....your eyes will probably tear up like crazy if you have never used it before. It is also important to know that eyeliner comes in different forms and lots of colours. You can use an eyeliner pencil, liquid eyeliner, gel eyeliner, once again, it depends on you but as a beginner I would probably start with a pencil as you tend to have more control.

Essence Long Lasting Eye Pencil for around 2€

10. MASCARA
If it's one things that I can't live without, it's mascara. It 100% changes or completes my look. A good mascara can give you that voluminous false lash look, if that's what you're going for. If you're going for length, there's one for that too and if it's both, well there's one for that too.

12. LIPSTICKS
When it comes to the world of lipsticks there are so many options and finishes, you can go for a matte look, a glossy look, a sheen look and let's not even begin to talk about the various colours. It will be pretty hard to recommend lipsticks but below I have listed a few faves.

13. BRUSH SET
So the final recommended item on my list are some brushes because what good is makeup if you don't have the correct tools to apply them? A decent face and eye brush set to start you off and you're good to go.

You can check out brush sets from Makeup Revolution which range from as low as 6€

Check them out here

A personal favorite of mine are the brushes from Real Techniques. They're really good quality and you can buy them as a set or individually.

Check them out here and here

A next great option is the brushes from EcoTools. Really neat design and high functionality and of course vegan approved!

Check them out here and here

So that wraps up my (very long) post about starting your first makeup kit. Remember that these are just the basics and if you are lost about finding your shade or what works best for your skin type please don't hesitate to ask the consultants present, that's what they are there for. It's better to ask for help than go around looking a hot mess haha.
