Obviously I'm no dermatologist nor a skin care guru but rather an enthusiast. I love trying good quality products that are worth the price and I've been noticing that apart from Korean skin care (which I would like to make a future post about), French skincare is right up there in the list of elites. I have been using various products from different brands and I think it's time we talk about some of them. Most of these you can find in French pharmacies (you know, if you're ever just wandering around the streets of Paris or something) and the prices range from low to high end. I'm going to list general brands and the best sellers so if you're interested in French skin care, this is the post for you! I'm also going to leave direct links to lookfantastic for most of the products because I think it's such a reliable site and available to many countries.
P.S. I am not a dermatologist and everything here is just advice. You should always spot test new products or speak with your dermatologist first!
1. BIODERMA
Without a doubt this a well known brand and not just in France. I personally love the micellar water, it is gentle but tough enough to get rid of my makeup. I personally use the Pigmentbio Brightening Micellar Water(the grey one) as I have some dark spots that I'm working on. It's important to check out the full range and choose which you think is best for your skin type. The anti-redness cream and the foaming gel are also well known products belonging to this brand.
2. LA ROCHE-POSAY
How can we mention French skin care without mentioning this brand? It is so well known and well loved. I adore the Effaclar line, especially the face wash and the Anthelios sunscreen is a cult favorite.
3. NUXE
I went to my friend's house and when she told me I should try this dry oil, I was shooketh! I barely even knew what was dry oil but after using it, I just needed it to have it and explore this brand a little more. I also remember the lip balm being the rival to Laneige's lip mask. Maybe after I'm finished with my little tub, I'll give this one a try.
4. CAUDALIE
Another iconic brand with another iconic product, the beauty elixir which works as an all round spray. You can use it as a refresher, a setting spray, a toner, you name it. I know the serum is a bit pricey but the positive reviews are endless and that must be worth something right?
5. VICHY
This is another brand that you can't help but notice in all the pharmacies and not just in France. Vichy is well known for their various lines filled with many different products to choose from. The only problem you'd have is deciding on which to get! If I were you, I'd keep my eye on the LiftActiv and Aqualia lines.
6. AVÈNE
I know you have seen this brand before. It's hard to miss. It's orange and chic. Everyone and their mother raves about the thermal spring water that is proven to soothe skin and reduce redness. Another raved about product is definitely RetrinAL cream which is supposed to leave the skin bright and rejuvenated.
7. L'OCCITANE EN PROVENCE
This one is an absolute favorite of mine. I can't begin to tell you how much I love their products. I am a die hard fan of their Bonne Mere Savon de Marseille soaps. Trust me, when you use them, you will feel the cleanest you have ever felt in your life. Another great product that I love is the almond shower oil. It leaves your skin so soft and with a light but detectable scent. Oh, let's not forget about how much everyone loves their hand creams and that Immortelle overnight serum? A hit!
8. BIOTHERM
I remember there was a point in time where everyone was just obsessed with the Biotherm Life Plankton Essence and with good reason, the results were amazing. Although on the pricey side, Biotherm is one of France's top skin care brands and it has earned every accolade that it has.
9. YVES ROCHER
Another personal favorite of mine. They also have great skin care products and I love their lip balms and hand creams just as much as the next guy. They have so many different lines to choose from but if you are confused about where to start, the store attendants are always knowledgeable and ready to help you. If you can't access a physical store, you may want to start with the vegetal line.
10. EMBRYOLISSE
There is one product that everyone loves to have and it's the Lait Creme Concentre moisturizer from Embryolisse. Models, photographers, make up artists, everyone loves this product and declares it a staple in their skin care regimen.
So there you have it, my top French skin care brands that you should definitely check out. Some products are more on the expensive side but there are also a lot of affordable ones.
