LONG RUNNING ANIMES TO GET YOU THROUGH THE QUARANTINE (OR BOREDOM)


So you're stuck at home and bored out of your mind. You've watched all the series on Netflix and finished all the quests in your video games and you just don't feel like doing anything too productive. Maybe it's time to dive into the world of anime and give it a try.
In this post I've put together a list of long running animes that will keep you entertained from start to finish. So whether you're a beginner or a veteran looking for some action and emotion packed animes to keep you occupied for quite a while, these are for you!


1. NARUTO AND NARUTO SHIPPUDEN

No. of episodes in Naruto: 220
No. of episodes in Naruto Shippuden: 500



Synopsis: It tells the story of Naruto Uzumaki, a young ninja who seeks to gain recognition from his peers and also dreams of becoming the Hokage, the leader of his village. The story is in two parts, the first set in Naruto's pre-teen years, and the second in his teens

2. BLEACH 

No. of episodes: 366 (with the possibility of more) 




Synopsis: The story follows the adventures of Ichigo Kurasaki after he obtains the powers of a Shinigami (Soul Reaper) a death personification similar to the Grim Reaper — from another Soul Reaper, Rukia Kuchiki. His newfound powers force him to take on the duties of defending humans from evil spirits and guiding departed souls to the afterlife.

3. INUYASHA

No. of episodes: 193



Synopsis: The series begins with Kagome Higurashi, a 15-year-old schoolgirl from modern-day Tokyo who is transported to the Sengoku period of Japan after falling into a well in her family shrine, where she meets the half dog-demon, Inuyasha. When a monster from that era tries to take the magical Shikon Jewel embodied in Kagome, she inadvertently shatters the Jewel into many pieces that are dispersed across Japan. Inuyasha and Kagome start traveling to recover it before the powerful and evil half spider-demon Naraku finds all the shards. Inuyasha and Kagome gain a number of allies during their journey, and their group is joined by Shippo, Miroku, Sango and Kirara.

4. RUROUNI KENSHIN (SAMURAI X)

No. of episodes: 95



Synopsis: The story begins during the 11th year of the Meiji period in Japan (1878) and follows a former assassin from the Bakumatsu, known as Hitokiri Battosai. After his work against the bakufu,Hitokiri Battosai disappears to become Himura Kenshin: a wandering swordsman who protects the people of Japan with a vow never to take another life.

5. SAILOR MOON

No. of episodes: 200 



Synopsis: The series follows the adventures of a schoolgirl named Usagi Tsukino as she transforms into Sailor Moon to search for a magical artifact, the "Legendary Silver Crystal" .She leads a diverse group of comrades, the Sailor Soldiers as they battle against villains to prevent the theft of the Silver Crystal and the destruction of the Solar System.

P.S. There has been a remake of Sailor Moon called Sailor Moon Crystal, more or less the same story line but with updated animations.

6. FAIRY TAIL

No. of episodes: 277



Synopsis: The story follows the adventures of Natsu Dragneel, a member of the popular wizard guild  Fairy Tail, as he searches the fictional world of Earth-land for the dragon Igneel.

7. FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST AND FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST BROTHERHOOD

No. of episodes in FMA: 51
No. of episodes in FMA Brotherhood: 64



Synopsis: The story follows two alchemist brothers named Edward and Alphonse Elric, who are searching for the philosopher's stone to restore their bodies after a failed attempt to bring their mother back to life using alchemy. They are especially driven as Alphonse's body has been entirely removed, and he now lives as a soul trapped in a lifeless armor, while Edward has exchanged his leg in an attempt to bring his mother back, and his arm in an attempt to tie Alphonse's soul to a set of armor that was lying nearby.

8. ZATCH BELL!

No. of episodes: 150



Synopsis: Takamine Kiyomaro, a depressed don't-care-about-the-world guy, was suddenly given a little demon named Gash Bell to take care of. Little does he know that Gash is embroiled into an intense fight to see who is the ruler of the demon world. All of the demons have to pick a master on Earth and duke it out with other demons until one survives. Needless to say, Kiyomaro becomes Gash's master, and through their many battles, Kiyomaro learns the importance of friendship and courage.

Along his journey, Goku makes several other friends, becomes a family man, discovers his alien heritage, and battles a wide variety of villains, many of whom also seek the Dragon Balls.

10. ONE PIECE

No. of episodes: 900 and counting...



Synopsis: The story follows the adventures of Monkey D Luffy, a boy whose body gained the properties of rubber after unintentionally eating a Devil Fruit. With his crew of pirates, named the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy explores the Grand Line in search of the world's ultimate treasure known as "One Piece" in order to become the next King of the Pirates.
